Background

The Simple Limb Initiative initially started in 2013 as a project in the industrial design studio led by Prof. Leslie Speer while at San Jose State University, in collaboration with Prof. Gerhard Reichert while he was on sabbatical in San Jose, CA.

Together they discovered common outlooks about design, and developed the project as a means for their students in their respective institutions to work together simultaneously.

This collaboration has grown over the years to involve other partners, including Prosthetic Solutions in Santa Clara, CA, and Mahavir-Kmina in Medellin, Colombia. We are currently in discussions with Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD.
